Infra red laser skin tightening is a minimally invasive way to tighten skin without surgery to help reverse some of the signs of aging. We have the Harmony Platform which uses a broadband spectrum of infra red light. This light heats up the water content in the skin, causing the surrounding collagen to contract and tighten. The body's own natural healing process then starts producing new collagen to further tighten the overall appearance of the skin over several months. It is not designed to treat large areas of loose or redundant skin, such as after massive weight-loss, which may be better suited to a surgical procedure. It is suitable for treating small areas of lax and redundant skin on the face and neck, to tone, lift and tighten skin. Results may vary significantly between individuals.
No anesthesia is required with the Harmony Platform. The treatment feels more like a relaxing hot stone massage. Infra red light is delivered in pulses from a hand piece placed on the skin to the targeted area. This energy is preferentially absorbed by the water content of the skin; heating up the water and causing uniform heating of the treated area. This heat acts on the existing collagen causing it to immediately contract and tighten. It also stimulates the fibroblasts in the skin to produce new collagen, thus creating further tightening over time. The length of the treatment session depends on the size of the area(s) being treated, but can take between 30 minutes to an hour.
A single treatment has produced very good results for some people, however, most people need 3 treatments, spaced 1 month apart. Severe skin laxity may require more treatments. Dr. Olson or Joan will advise you as to the number and frequency of treatments recommended for optimal results. Further maintenance treatments over the years (1-2 years) can be given when needed. As long as you are generally healthy and do not have any skin diseases or infections in the area treated, there are few medical reasons why patients should not undergo this treatment.
