You may have heard of microneedling and wondered what all the buzz is about. If you are looking for treatment to transform your skin without downtime, microneedling may be your solution. Here are important facts to know before scheduling your treatment.
7 Things You Need to Know about Microneedling!
1. Safe and effective anti-aging treatment
Rejuvapen microneedling is performed with an apparatus comprised of 9 fine, precise needles used to glide across the skin in a controlled motion to create micro perforations. These needles work to deliver growth factors, an anti-aging healing serum, beneath the skin to improve texture – even tone and firm aging skin. Microneedling is a laser-free procedure that triggers new collagen production and can be used to help resurface the skin. Since this procedure does not use heat, like lasers, it makes for a safe and comfortable treatment with a low complication rate.
2. It’s a comfortable procedure
In general, microneedling is a painless and comfortable procedure, but you may feel a slight vibrating sensation during treatment. A topical anesthetic is applied prior to treatment to make you feel more at ease and comfortable throughout the procedure.
3. Unlike laser treatments, it can be effective on all skin tones
Microneedling is an excellent alternative if you are concerned with recovery time or discoloration that can sometimes occur post-laser treatment. Removing heat from the equation makes this a great option for anyone with melasma, rosacea, and heat sensitivity.
4. It can be customized according to your to your skin’s needs
Microneedling done in a medical setting allows me to treat at different depths with active ingredients to target a variety of skin concerns. While often used for resurfacing skin texture, it improves discoloration, enlarged pores, acne scars, wrinkles, fine lines and crepey skin. Microneedling therapy will give the skin a healthy, glowing appearance.
5. All Microneedling treatments are not equal!
Medical microneedling is done at a depth of greater than 0.3 mm and can only be performed by a medical aesthetician, nurse or doctor. At-home microneedling is not interchangeable with the medical grade equipment, results, and high safety standards of a medical setting. If not used correctly, they can create tears in the skin and spread bacteria leading to very serious skin conditions. Additionally, certain skin care products are not meant to be used in conjunction with microneedling.
6. Microneedling isn’t exclusive to just the face area
Treatment can be performed on face, neck, chest, arms, and hands to target a variety of skin concerns.
7. No significant downtime
Most commonly you will have redness that resembles a sunburn for 24 – 48 hours after treatment. On some occasions patients can experience minor swelling, bruising, or peeling.
At Jane Olson MD my nurse or medical aesthetician will assess your skin and review your goals to recommend the best treatments and products for you.
