Lower eyelid blepharoplasty is used to remove or reposition the fat bulges and loose skin of the bottom eyelids. Many factors, including heredity, smoking and sun damage accelerate these changes. You may appear tired, sad, and older than you feel. Lower eyelid surgery will correct this, leaving you with a more youthful contour and alert appearance.
This procedure is frequently done at the same time as other procedures, such as upper eyelid blepharoplasty, forehead lift, and can be combined with laser or chemical resurfacing to smooth skin wrinkles.
Doctor Olson has a specialized 3 dimensional approach to the lower eyelid surgery. She recontours the fat through the back side of the eyelid (transconjunctival approach). She uses an advanced technique to re-drape and preserve the fat to fill the lost fat in the tear trough. The eyelid is horizontally supported so that the eyeshape remains a youthful almond shape into older age. Sagging, retraction and round eye is prevented. The skin externally is redraped to improve the wrinkled texture with either surgery or laser resurfacing. It is important to maintain the eyelid function to protect the eye and restore a normal position and shape to the eyes. Doctor Olson specializes in the correction of lid retraction caused by previous surgery and performs corrective surgery for patients who are unhappy with previous blepharoplasty from older and more aggressive techniques.
Eyelid surgery may be performed at any age and all times of the year in the office based setting. 99 percent of surgeons are NOT eye specialists – ASOPRS surgeons are extensively trained and experienced oculofacial surgeons.
